Total Exterior Solar Process
1. Submit your details
You provide your name, contact details, property address and an indication of their electricity usage or a recent bill.
We will discuss what you want from solar, your budget, battery storage options and any future needs, such as an electric vehicle.
2. Initial Consultation
3. Free Home Survey
We will assess the roof’s condition, size, orientation and shading, alongside the electrical supply, access requirements and suitable locations for the inverter and battery.
4. Personalised design and quotationÂ
Provide the proposed panel layout, equipment specification, installation price and estimated generation, bill savings and export income. We always clearly state the assumptions behind those estimates.
5. Acceptance of quotation
You approve the proposal, sign the installation agreement and pay any agreed deposit, with payment terms and cancellation rights explained.
6. Grid application and required approvals
We establish the correct connection route with the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO). G99 systems require advance approval; qualifying G98 systems can be installed and notified afterwards, within 28 days of commissioning. We will also check any planning or other consent requirements at this stage
7. Book and complete the installation
Agree the installation date, arrange scaffolding and fit the panels, inverter, battery if selected, wiring and associated equipment.
8. Test, commission and demonstrate the system
Complete electrical testing, configure the equipment and permitted export settings, set up monitoring and show you how to use the system. Once commissioned and authorised to operate, it can start supplying electricity to the home.
9. Provide certificates and handover documents
Supply the electrical certification, MCS certificate, warranties, operating instructions and relevant DNO paperwork. Complete applicable Building Regulations notifications. Certification is part of the eligibility evidence for export payments.
10. Apply for an export tariff
You choose an electricity supplier’s Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff and submit the required documents. A suitable export meter—usually a smart meter—is needed, and the supplier arranges the export account and registration requirements.
Once the export tariff is active, the supplier pays for eligible metered electricity exported under the tariff’s terms. You can monitor generation, consumption and exports.
